Lidl Glider EDF
How about a bit of fun with a Mass Build Project using the Lidl Glider? The main build will be of an EDF powered design. Although, any other design based on a Lidl Glider will be fine. For those wanting to build an EDF Lidl, a 3D printed EDF thrust tube and mounting kit will be provided FREE!
Know your Lidl Glider: There are 2 basic versions of the Lidl Glider. In any year, either design may be on sale. It is important to know which version you have, in order that you are given the correct EDF mounting kit.
V1 - The original design, characterised by straight undercut tipped plain wings and a narrow format fuselage.
V2 - An updated design, characterised by curved and rounded tipped wings, pre-marked ailerons and elevator and a wider fuselage.
The 2025 gliders (the spotty ones) are V2.
Know your EDF: The EDF fitting kit provided is designed for the FMS 50mm, 11 blade, 3S, 5,400 kV 358W 620g EDF units only. It is IMPORTANT you only use this FMS 50mm EDF. There are 2 basic types of FMS 50mm EDF unit. It is important to know which version you have so you are given the correct EDF Thrust Tube.
Detachable Intake Ring - The original version of the FMS 50mm EDF. This version has a separate, detachable, intake ring and also features reinforcement ribs around the body of the casing.
Fixed Intake Ring - This is an updated version of the FMS 50mm EDF. The intake ring is moulded as an integral part of the whole casing. The casing itself is smooth, without any reinforcing rings.
These EDFs can be bought from 4-Max, (and other outlets). Due to the limited battery space in the Lidl Glider nose, it is recommended you only use the 3S 5,400kV 50mm EDF.
EDF Kit Fitting Instructions: Choose the fitting instructions which correspond to the EDF unit you have (detachable or fixed intake ring). Obviously, a Lidl build gives you unlimited free range to do whatever you want to do, but, it is strongly advised to read through these instructions as some elements may be important to your successful build.

Whichever path you want to take, a piece of advice up front. Assemble your brand new glider and find, and record, it's CG BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE. This step is vitally important for a successful build.
Once you have your Glider and EDF Click Here to send an email to Nick Walker. Please state which version of Glider you have, which version of EDF you have, and which colour(*) mounting kit you would like. You will be given the corresponding 3D printed thrust tube and mounting kit FREE of charge. Please allow a week or so for your kit to be printed. Kits will be available for collection from The Tower when ready.
(*) Available colours are: White, Orange, Yellow, Gold, Red, Blue, Light Blue, Grey.
A date for some kind of Mass Build event will most likely be announced later. Maybe October-ish, this should give everyone enough time to finish their builds.
Nick's original EDF Lidl (V1 type) will be available in The Tower workshop for anyone to have a look at if ideas or inspiration are needed to get you going. Also, there is a whole load of information about Lidl RC builds all over FaceBook and YouTube if you need some help or encouragement.
But, more than anything else; Have Fun!!
